I took my SRT8 to the mechanic cause it had a head gasket leak and they said to try Bars in it. I looked at the reviews for Bars and they didnt look too good. I ordered it anyway since my mechanic said it should work. It took about a week for it to get to me over here in Canada which isn’t that bad. I took it to my mechanic so he could get the repair done, and when he was done he said that the bars clogged my heater core so it would cost more to get the seal fixed. My mechanic also recommended that it would be best to just have the gasket replaced for $1200. Is this the best thing to do or should I try another sealer?
Getting your gasket completely replaced is probably the best way to get the gasket fixed. Some sealers are a good substitute to spending so much on getting that repair done though.
From my experience as a mechanic for over 16 years, I have tried Thermogasket, Steel-Seal, Fusion, and Bars. All of them besides Fusion have a water-glass based formula that usually just crack off the engine. If you’re going to try to another head gasket sealer, I think Fusion will have the highest chance of success.
About a year ago, I had a little leak coming from my 300c’s head gasket. I first found out cause I realized the engine was running hotter than normal. My mechanic wanted me to just have the gasket replaced but when I heard how much it would cost to get that replaced, I went to the internet to see if I had another option. I usually go off of reviews to try to determine what the best product is when I buy stuff online and Fusion had the best reviews out of all the options. Another cool thing is that Fusion can last up to 6 years. I’m pretty cheap as-well so I was a little sad to see that Fusion wasn’t cheap. But considering that the package came with easy to follow instructions, good tech support, and a good warranty, I’d say it was worth the $120 to get my gasket sealed back up. As I said, It’s been about year and my head gasket is still leak free.

I went with Steel-Seal my first go-around and it sealed my gasket for about a month. After that, I noticed I had even more symptoms than I had before. The first time my gasket was blown, I had white smoke coming from my tail pipe. After my first month, I had my smoky tail pipe and my engine was overheating. After I realized I shouldn’t go with steelseal again, I looked online and did some research on all the different sealers. From all the stuff I read, Fusion looked the best. They claim to have the strongest formula which is pretty cool cause Im pretty sure that the steel seal was too weak. Anyway, the Fusion worked great. Its been in my 300C for about 5 years now. Go with Fusion, Don’t waste your $1200 on a gasket replacement.
Alright I just placed the order on a 8CYL. Universal Kit from Fusion, Can’t wait to see how it turns out. I’ll update with a new reply on how it goes.

Alright so my Fusion 8CYL. kit really sealed my leak. It took about an hour and a half to get the repair done. Took awhile but it was way better than having to pay my mechanic $1200. Thanks to all of you for recommending Fusion, probably wouldn’t have found it.

Glad you got your 300c sealed. Any more updates?
