I’ve had my Deville for about 4 years now. shes up to about 115k miles. I noticed around the 114k mark that my deville started to run at a higher temperature than usual. I did’nt really think it mattered until I also noticed a coolant leak coming from the head gasket area. I was pretty worried so I took her to the mechanic as soon as I could. My mechanic said that I have a head gasket failure. He also said that I have two options; I could either have the gasket replaced for $2200 bucks, or, I could try to use Fusion Sealer in the vehicle. As soon as I got home, I looked online to see what this Fusion stuff was. Turns out that it sounds pretty promising, especially since they have a specific formula for my Northstar engine. Anyways Im here cause I want to know if I should get the gasket replaced or just try this way cheaper fusion stuff. From the reviews and info off their website, it sounds like I should go with Fusion but I dont know if they’re just a scam or something. Please let me know what I should do.
As a retired mechanic, I have seen hundreds of northstar engines suffer the same fate as yours. Recently all these companies started making these sealers promising that they could fix your gasket for a fraction of the cost. The problem is that half of them dont do squat. I have tested out just about every brand to see which ones could get the gasket sealed for the cheapest price. Blue Devil, Bars, and thermogasket have never worked for me, Steel seal worked once on a guys old bel-air (keep in mind that I have tried each brand atleast 10 times.) So it’s nice to see that your mechanic is recommending the best product out right now. Instead of fixing the gasket leak, those crappy brands usually end up clogging the cars radiator. The most consistent for the price is definitely Fusion. Fusion has worked for me everytime on every car i have thrown at it. Id suggest trying out the fusion since it will work and not cost $2200.
My brother has a Cadillac Seville with 140k miles and for months it's been blowing steam out of the exhaust, getting bad gas-mileage, and also has been losing lots of water. He didn't have the money for a new head gasket job so he looked online and also went with Fusion. I followed the directions and was done in about an hour. He's been driving it for over a month now and no leaks. I was pretty happy to see that getting the gasket fixed didnt take up my whole day like I thought it would. Well worth the $150 to get his gasket fixed. In hindsight, he probably should’ve bought a model with lower miles, but im pretty sure most northstar engines have the gasket blow anyway from overheating.
I’m still mad I wasted money on BlueDevil, wish I went with Fusion the first time.
Same here ItsBugs, crap clogged my radiator and I had to pay my mechanic even more to get the crap outta there. Super glad I found Fusion though, probably saved my engine.

So I did go with Fusion and I just finished the repair. Fusion works! Took me about an hour to get my head gasket sealed back up but it was definitely worth it. If I have any future head gasket problems ill keep Fusion in mind.
